Israel sent to Ukraine several official protests in connection with registration of notorious Sergey Ratushniak famous for his anti-Semitic views as candidate for Presidency.
Israeli ministry of foreign affairs deplored the fact that such a person can be a candidate for any important position, it contradicts to official authorities position on fighting anti-Semitism and those who deny Holocaust.
20 deputies of Israel parliament send an address to Ukrainian president and prime-minister. They expressed strong protest against participation of S. Ratushniak in presidential election. The address was signed by representatives of most Knesset fractions. Knesset members say, “We can’t impassively see how for the first time after World War II a man with Nazi ideas, denying Holocaust, threatening Jewish community and provoking hatred to our compatriots and Israel can run for president in Ukraine”.
S. Ratushniak in his turn demanded diplomatic break with Israel and didn’t conceal his hatred to Jewish State.
Some political forces in Ukraine demanded from the Central Elections Committee to cancel Ratushniak’s registration as he discredits Ukraine through involving it into an international scandal.
Viacheslav Lihachev, an expert of Congress of national communities of Ukraine, says that so far S. Ratushniak is the only presidential candidate who openly expresses anti-Semitic views. Even Oleg Tyagnybok, the leader of radical Ukrainian nationalists, constantly accused of Xenophobia and anti-Semitism, acts more decently. However the fact that Ukrainian authorities and political leaders still haven’t condemned Ratushniak’s caveman anti-Semitism and Xenophobia causes serious concern.
