Dnipro Lyceum #144 named Levi Yitzhak Schneerson is one of the largest national lyceums in Europe. For three decades, the lyceum (formerly a Jewish school) has graduated more than a thousand boys and girls, providing them not only with general educational knowledge, but also giving them a foundation of Jewish identity and pride.
Graduates of the lyceum achieve great success in business, professional world and are leaders of Jewish communities both in Dnipro and around the world.
Dnipro Lyceum #144 named Levi Yitzhak Schneerson is among the twenty best schools of the city, its students annually win in Olympiads of city, regional and national level.
The Jewish community constantly cares about the development of the lyceum and its compliance with the advanced world standards of education, strengthening both the material base and maintaining the high level of the pedagogical staff of the Jewish cycle.
The Jewish school of Dnipro, now a lyceum, is one of the first in the CIS, with the largest number of children studying there. The school was founded in 1991, when by the decision of the City Executive Committee in September Jewish classes were organized in secondary school No. 58, which was located on Paster Street. The school was established thanks to the support of the Or Avner – Chabad Lubavitch Foundation headed by its president Mr. Levi Leviev.
On November 1, 1991, the Jewish classes were transformed into a Jewish school, numbered 144. At that time there were 216 pupils in the school. In March 1993, the City Executive Committee decided to transfer the building of a boarding school for orphans to the Jewish school, and the school moved from Paster Street to Minin Street (now Menachem-Mendel Schneerson Street), where it is located today.
Today about five hundred pupils study in the lyceum. Along with general education subjects, all students of the lyceum receive basic knowledge of Hebrew, Jewish history and tradition, and the culture of the Jewish people. An information and technology center has also been created, thanks to which lyceum students have the opportunity to learn information and computer technologies and, starting from the youngest grades, study all disciplines with computer and audiovisual support.
Pupils of the lyceum have repeatedly been winners and prize-winners of quizzes, competitions and Olympiads, including international ones. The lyceum takes a very active part in the life of the Jewish community. Graduates are the pride of the lyceum. Upon graduation, they have the opportunity to continue their studies in prestigious universities in Ukraine, Israel, Austria, Germany and the United States of America.
