This week, the popular YouTube channel “Menorah” delighted its viewers with two new episodes. A fascinating conversation between the Chief Rabbi of Dnieper and the region and the famous doctor Eugene Komarovsky, and an address by Rabbi Kaminezki to the weekly chapter of Vayikra, in which he shares deep thoughts and lessons learned from the Torah text.
The first video is titled “Dr. Komarovsky on the worst mistake parents make! Circumcision, Disease and Harm of Alcohol“ and its description reads, ”What is the right way to take care of a child’s health? What recommendations are given by modern medicine, and what advice can be found in Jewish traditions? In this video, Rav. Shmuel Kaminezki talks with Dr. Eugene Komarovsky about key aspects of children’s health, disease prevention and parenting. We discuss why it’s important to trust science, how to combine medical knowledge with traditional values, and what mistakes parents make. In this video we discuss children’s health, approach to medicine and parenting in the traditions of Judaism. What is the right way to care for a child? Should we follow old methods or trust modern research? How do Jewish families pass on the wisdom of generations in matters of health and upbringing?”.
The second video is entitled “You Don’t Know the Truth About Inheritance!” and the Menorah Channel describes it as follows: “Why do Jews readily accept the Torah, but are in no hurry to develop the Land of Israel? And what does this have to do with the book of Vayikra, which many generations have avoided studying?
In this issue, Rav Shmuel Kaminetsky reveals a key difference in the attitude toward the two types of inheritance that G-d gave to the Jewish people. We’ll explore why Torah traditions live in every Jew, yet 85% of Jews have never been to Israel.
– What unites the Torah and the Land of Israel as the heritage of the Jewish people?
– Why did Jews say “Naaseh ve-nishma” at Mount Sinai, but doubted before entering Israel?
– How does the book of Vayikra help deepen our understanding of our connection to the Creator?
– Why did its study seem difficult in the past but is accessible to everyone today?”.
