“Like Store” is Important as a Factor of Positive Education

The Levy-Itzhak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144, thanks to the Department of Jewish Studies, has developed an interesting system of positive education for students and encouraging children to actively participate in Jewish activities.

This year, the style and vocabulary of social networks are actively used, so the incentive points that students can earn for positive actions and behavior are called “likes” or “likes.” The Judaic Studies Department encourages students to actively participate in the morning Shacharis prayer and receive “likes” instead of forbidding or demanding them. For example, if a child turns in his phone to avoid distractions during prayer, he receives a “like,” and if he participates in Shacharis, he receives another, and if he does so using the Siddur, he receives another, and the fourth “like” is if he prays out loud. The child who will perform the functions of a hazan receives the largest number of “likes” – as many as five. But from time to time the teacher does some extraordinary actions, for example, announcing at the end of Shaharis that today there is a doubling or even tripling of “likes” and those who participated most fully receive not four or five, eight or ten, but even twelve or fifteen “likes” for the morning. But it is quite possible to get an average of 20-25 “likes” in a week.

From time to time, a special store opens where children can get very interesting things for “likes” – notebooks, stickers and other beautiful stationery, dolls and souvenirs, as well as goodies. In addition to personal encouragement, there is also a collective one: with their good deeds, children can earn “likes” for their class, which form a conditional rating. The results of this rating, which will be summarized at the end of the school year, will reveal the winner and this class will receive a super prize, but it is still unknown what kind.

The event is supported by the Jewish Community of Dnipro.
