“Shemini” Kabbalat Shabbat at “Beit Tzindlicht”

At the Children’s Educational Center “Beit Tzindlicht,” as usual on Friday, a playful Kabbalat Shabbat was held, this time dedicated to the Shabbat of the Torah portion “Shemini.”

According to tradition, each group portrayed itself as a large family — a “father” and a “mother” were chosen, while the other children became relatives and friends invited to the family Kabbalat Shabbat. Each child gave tzedakah, the “mother” lit the Shabbat candles, and everyone responded with “Amen.” The “father” blessed the challahs and conducted a playful Kiddush, reenacting all the key elements of an authentic Kabbalat Shabbat.

Afterward, the children joyfully sang Shabbat songs, danced, and enjoyed treats. “It is very important that from an early age, children not only observe how Kabbalat Shabbat is celebrated in their families but also actively participate themselves, even through play. This helps them prepare for understanding the roles they will aspire to fulfill in society,” says Malka Averbukh, a kindergarten teacher.

The event was held with the support of the Jewish Community of Dnipro.
