JBBBS at the Dnipro History Museum: A Journey Through Time and Warm Memories

Another unforgettable event took place as part of the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBBS) program — this time, participants embarked on a true journey through time at the Dnipro History Museum.

“Our youngest participants were the first visitors. For them, it was a world full of discoveries and imagination: they became doctors, shopkeepers, and river pilots from the early 20th century, watched videos about the construction of bridges in our city with fascination, and made their own scented beeswax candles — like real craftsmen,” says Tetyana Kaplunska, project manager of JBBBS in Dnipro.

Later, the museum doors opened to our teenage participants. Guided by a tour expert, they explored Dnipro’s architectural, scientific, and artistic heritage, delved into its industrial past, and joined the symbolic activity of candle-making — a unifying element of the day.

Bridges are not just engineering structures. They are also a metaphor for the connection between generations, between people and their stories. This is exactly what we nurture in our program: connection, support, and trust. Every such event is another bridge we build together.

This excursion was a powerful reminder of the importance of knowing who we are and where we come from — and how this knowledge helps us grow stronger, more confident, and more united.

The JBBBS program extends heartfelt thanks to the Jewish Community of Dnipro and Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, as well as our partners from the Jewish Community of Boston, USA. We are proud to be part of the comprehensive Kehillah Project.
