A new project has been launched in Dnipro by the city’s Jewish community — “100 Mezuzot for 100 Homes.” This initiative aims to place mezuzot on the front doors of Jewish households that have never had one, to sanctify the home, fill it with the light of Yiddishkeit, and bring blessings.
The idea originated with Rabbi Akiva Romanovsky, one of the Rebbe’s emissaries in Dnipro, who noticed during Hanukkah candle lightings in local Jewish homes that many were missing a mezuzah. The initiative was supported by the Dnipro Jewish Community and was first implemented among families of displaced persons under the care of Rivka Lazareva, within the framework of various community programs.
The initiative was supported by the Chief Sofer of Ukraine, Rabbi Reuven Margolin, under whose supervision the mezuzahs are being created. A sponsor has joined the program, and the project is now being carried out in the merit of Eliezer Abramenko, Levi Yitzchak Abramenko, Reuven Kaminezki, Menachem Mendel Kaminezki, Yosef Yitzchak Kaminezki, Tzvi-Hirsch ben Leah, and Igor ben Zoya. At this stage, one mezuzah is planned for each apartment, meaning one hundred Jewish homes in Dnipro will receive their own sacred scroll. This will be a significant contribution to spreading the light of Yiddishkeit.
“The mezuzot are installed by Yosef Yitzchak Zhilin, a sincere and bright young man and a graduate of the yeshiva, who brings spiritual light to our world with great joy,” says Rivka Lazareva. “I know many families, especially among displaced people, who need mezuzot. I coordinate with them and pass the information on to the community that brings this holy work to life. People express deep gratitude and ask to send blessings to those who support this important initiative.”
“Even though the program has just started, we’ve already witnessed stories that can truly be called miracles,” shares Rabbi Akiva Romanovsky. “For example, we installed a mezuzah in the home of an elderly woman who had long been connected to the community but for various reasons had never had a mezuzah. Shortly after, her apartment remained untouched during a missile strike — while neighboring homes were damaged. I am certain the mezuzah’s spiritual power protected her.”
If your Jewish home doesn’t yet have a mezuzah — or if you know someone in need — you can contact the community directly or through our website at +38 050 320 25 21 or [email protected] to join this program or its next stage. If you wish to support the spread of Yiddishkeit and become a benefactor of this or any other initiative of the Dnipro Jewish Community, you can do so via the website or by contacting us directly.
