At the girls’ boarding school of the Dnipro Jewish Community, “Bayit LeBanot,” which has long been more than just a place of residence, study, and spiritual growth for young Jewish girls—but a true home where every student feels warmth, support, and a connection to tradition—the celebration of Lag BaOmer took the form of an intimate, cozy family evening. All the customs and symbols of this special day blended harmoniously with the heartfelt atmosphere that defines this unique institution.
The celebration, which had not only an entertaining but also a deeply symbolic nature, welcomed special guests—female emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe who carry out their mission in Dnipro, daily inspiring, supporting, and educating the women of our community: Rebbetzins Sarah Glick, Tzipora Nachshon, and Malky Feldman. They not only participated in the event but also shared personal memories and touching stories related to Lag BaOmer. They spoke about the special emphasis the Leader of our Generation, the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, placed on children’s participation in this holiday, having initiated the tradition of Lag BaOmer parades to instill in children from a young age a sense of belonging to the Jewish people, Torah, and mitzvot.
The culmination of the evening was the traditional bonfire—modest in size, yet immense in meaning and spirit. Around the fire, the girls gathered hand in hand, singing and dancing in a warm and glowing atmosphere, tapping into the profound spiritual messages of this day—filled with inner fire, elevation, and the joy of unity. As a final touch to the evening, they roasted beloved childhood marshmallows over the flames—sweets that evoke carefree moments, warmth, and the comfort of home.
The following morning, still full of impressions from the night before, all the students of the boarding school took part in the larger community celebration, which included a parade, themed activity stations, a colorful raffle, and endless, heartfelt fun—echoing the inner light that Lag BaOmer brings.
