Happy Shavuot – the Festival of the Giving of the Torah!

Tonight, June 1, after sunset, the holiday of Shavuot begins — celebrated on the fiftieth day after Passover to commemorate the giving of the holy Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai.

Shavuot is observed for two days — the 6th and 7th of Sivan. On the first day, during the morning prayer in the synagogue, the Decalogue – the Ten Commandments – is read aloud, and on the second day, the Yizkor memorial prayer is recited.

Every Jew is obligated to hear the reading of the Ten Commandments and renew their personal acceptance of the Torah’s commandments, just as our ancestors did at Mount Sinai. The Yizkor prayer is said by those whose one or both parents have passed away.

This year, holiday candles are to be lit on June 1 at 20:16.
The Ten Commandments will be read on June 2 at 11:00.
The Yizkor prayer will be recited on June 3 at 11:30.
The holiday concludes after 21:23.

Our website invites every Jew to come to the synagogue and be part of this great moment — the receiving of G-d’s Torah!

Chag Sameach!
