Rabbi Vayskovskiy Speaks to Menorah Community Members About Living “Here and Now”

At the “Menorah Community” youth project of the Jewish Community of Dnipro — actively developed by the Zislin family — a men’s learning session was held on the eve of Shavuot, led by one of the young leaders of the community, Rabbi David Vayskovskiy.

Rabbi Vayskovskiy chose a profound and timely topic for the evening: life happens here and now. Much of what is presented today as modern psychological insight is, in fact, a reframing of eternal truths that the Torah has been teaching for thousands of years.

“Reb Dovid emphasized that even though the Jews in the desert were constantly on the move, they didn’t put life ‘on hold’,” says Levi Zislin, head of the Menorah Community project. “They clearly understood that the time between Egypt and the Land of Israel was a temporary and transitional period, yet they continued to build, to learn, and to grow. This is what sets them apart from us — we are the ones who so often press ‘pause’ on our lives: waiting, standing in lines, stuck on the way…”

During the session, participants discussed practical ways to infuse each moment with meaning, how to avoid the habit of wasting time in passive waiting, and shared their own reflections, experiences, and insights on the topic.
