Shavuot in JBBBS Style: A Festive Gathering on the Dnipro Riverside

On a sunny Sunday, the first day of summer, the participants of the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBBS) program — a project of the Jewish community of Dnipro for children and teens — gathered on the city’s picturesque riverside for a special celebration. The event was dedicated to the holiday of Shavuot, a time of spiritual renewal, receiving the Torah, and embracing Jewish values.

“The participants — children, their parents, and mentors — began the event with an interactive discussion about the meaning of Shavuot. It was especially touching to see how engaged the children were, sharing their thoughts, asking questions, and reflecting on the essence of the holiday,” said Tetyana Kaplunska, the head of the JBBBS project.

The celebration continued with a creative workshop where children and adults decorated small fabric pouches using Shavuot-themed symbols. The atmosphere on the lawn was warm and joyful — filled with inspiration, smiles, and togetherness. The creative process became a true bridge between generations.

The gathering concluded with a kosher Shavuot-style buffet — delicious, nourishing, and heartfelt.

This was more than just a celebration — it was an experience of education through tradition, connection, and care. It’s how lasting bonds are formed across generations.

This special event was made possible thanks to the support of the Jewish community of Dnipro and the personal involvement of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, as well as with the support of the Jewish community of Boston, USA.

The JBBBS program is part of the Kehilla Project and holds regular Sunday meetings for children and teens. To learn more or join the program, please call: +38 068-480-30-52 (Natalia).
