From games for the little ones to meaningful conversations with the older kids – a Sunday gathering in the “Tov ve Hesed” project

The theme of the Sunday meeting in the “Tov ve Hesed” volunteer project of the Jewish community of Dnipro — a project that supports children deprived of parental care and living in specialized institutions created as part of the “Dobré Vdoma” program — was the weekly Torah portion “Naso”, which touches on seemingly unrelated and diverse topics.

As always, the project’s coordinator, Chana Neskhes, brought plenty of delightful surprises — sweets, ice cream, games, and good cheer. While for the youngest children the program focused mainly on fun and play, the older group took part in a deep and meaningful conversation that uncovered important life lessons found in the Torah portion.

“Often, when we find ourselves in a difficult situation that demands spiritual work, the first step is to acknowledge the problem — to become aware of its presence. Then we take a step back, detach from it, and view it from the outside, more objectively. That’s when insight arises, becoming a springboard toward a future solution,” explains Chana Neskhes. “Right now, the older children are entering a crucial period in their lives — facing questions like where to study, what career path to choose, and whether they’ll succeed in finding a profession that brings both fulfillment and success. We support their desire to learn, to explore, and to move forward without fear. We emphasize how important it is to get a quality education now in order to build a meaningful and dignified life in the future.”
