To mark the end of the academic year, students of the lower grades of the “Chaya Mushka” school — the leading educational institution for girls in the Jewish community of Dnipro — were treated to a special field trip to the renowned Dnipro pottery studio of Serhii Horban.
In this unique creative space, the girls had the opportunity not only to witness the entire process of crafting ceramics — from soft clay to a finished piece fired in the kiln — but also to try their hand at the pottery wheel themselves. They experienced firsthand how, for centuries, everyday objects were created in just this way by artisans in the shtetls of Ukraine and Eastern Europe.
“The girls were absolutely delighted by this encounter with the famous Dnipro workshop, especially with the chance to shape clay with their own hands,” shared teacher Edna Yudovich. “It’s not just a fun and educational activity that broadens their horizons, and not just a journey into the lifestyle and craftsmanship of past generations — it’s also a meaningful step toward building ecological awareness, which is increasingly important in our age of rapid technological progress.”
The event was held with the support of the Jewish Community of Dnipro.
