At the Beit Tsindlicht Children’s Educational Center, the main preschool institution of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, the series of themed weeks continues. Each week is devoted to one of the Six Days of Creation, under the shared concept: “Six Days of Creation: The Beautiful World Around Us.”
This week, the children explored the third Day of Creation, when Hashem created dry land and vegetation. Throughout the week, they discovered new things about trees, flowers, and various forms of plant life. They learned how important plants are, how humans use them, and why they hold a special place in Jewish texts and in the worldview of Judaism.
Given the children’s young age, the theme was explored through various activities: they looked for wooden objects around them, studied the types and structures of plants, observed their growth stages, planted greenery in the courtyard and in pots, watched cartoons, and listened to engaging stories.
“We tried to explain plant morphology and physiology in a child-friendly way, and show the benefits we receive from plants. But we went beyond that,” said teacher Malka Averbukh. “We focused on how the Torah compares a person to a tree, how many mitzvot are connected to plants, and explained which ones they are and with which holidays they’re associated. It was a truly rich and fascinating week.”
