Evening farbrengen at the PlayBack camp in honor of the yahrtzeit  of Levi Yitzchak

The PlayBack day camp, organized by the Jewish Community of Dnepr, hosted events for girls aged 6 to 14 dedicated to the 20th of Av – the anniversary of the departure from the material world of the soul of the righteous Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, the father of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, who was the Chief Rabbi of our city for thirty years (1909-1939).

A real farbrengen was organized for the older groups – the girls lit a ner-neshama in honor of the raising of the soul of the righteous Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, read mishnayot for each letter of his name and sang nigunim to the accompaniment of a guitar. Special treats were also organized – marshmallows, bisli and bamba, so beloved by Jewish girls, as well as more familiar chips and popcorn.

“This was a very important event for our camp, because just recently we talked about the fate of his wife, Rebbetzin Chana, who was his faithful companion and helped him through all the trials that befell him,” says PlayBack director Leah Lazareva, “the girls were shocked by the inhuman cruelty with which the Soviet regime dealt with the great righteous man, condemning him to certain death. Very soon we will talk about Rabbi Levi Yitzchak’s daughter-in-law, the great Rebbetzin Chaya-Mushka, whose wedding he was unable to attend with his son, and she was unable to meet her father-in-law after the wedding, or even come to his grave, but who did a lot to glorify him and to give us the opportunity to get to know his great legacy.”
