Beauty, light and meaning – Avdalah became the topic of the women’s lesson at the “Menorah Community”.

The main topic of the next women’s lesson in the youth project “Menorah Community” of the Jewish community of Dnepr, which is actively developing under the leadership of Levi and Esti Zislin, was the discussion of the topic of Avdalah – the ceremony of dividing the time of Saturday rest and the time of weekday work.

First, the project participants learned to make wicker candles – an indispensable attribute of the Avdalah ceremony, which are lit, symbolizing the end of Shabbat and the light of which must be immediately used to demonstrate that weekdays have begun.

Then Osnat Lieberman gave a lesson on the meaning of this rite and its importance in Jewish life, because the Jewish people are often called the people who know the meaning of the Sabbath as one of the fundamental foundations of the Jewish perception of the universe.

“Another important element of this meeting was the celebration of the birthdays of two participants of our project,” says project co-director Esti Zislina, “we congratulated them with smiles, warm words and sweets. Such evenings remind us how important it is to get together, learn and share joy.”
