The website of the Jewish Community of Dnipro warmly congratulates all of its readers on the main national holiday of our country – the Independence Day of Ukraine!
On this day in 1991, the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (UkrSSR) adopted a document entitled the “Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine,” which stated:
Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine
In view of the mortal danger surrounding Ukraine in connection with the state coup in the USSR on August 19, 1991,
Continuing the thousand-year tradition of state development in Ukraine,
Proceeding from the right of a nation to self-determination in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other international legal documents, and
Implementing the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic solemnly declares
Independence of Ukraine and creation of the independent Ukrainian state – UKRAINE.
The territory of Ukraine is indivisible and inviolable.
From this day forward, the Constitution and laws of Ukraine only are valid on the territory of Ukraine.
This act comes into force upon its approval.

Together with all other ethnic and confessional groups, the Jews of Ukraine welcomed their country’s attainment of state independence and have been actively participating in building a free, democratic, and prosperous Ukraine.
On this day, we all wish the Ukrainian State peace, well-being, unity and solidarity, victory in the struggle against its enemies, the strengthening of Ukrainian statehood, the full restoration of territorial integrity, and prosperity in the economic, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual spheres!
The Jewish Community of Dnipro, together with the entire Jewish people living both in Ukraine and in other countries of the world, wholeheartedly congratulates the Ukrainian State on its birthday!
