Another Jewish Brunch took place in Dnipro, organized by the Jewish Student Cultural Center “Hillel.” Each such gathering has its own unique atmosphere, and this time participants had the opportunity to converse with Mrs. Leah Mayevskaya and delve into philosophical reflections based on Hillel’s teachings.
“The discussion was marked by exceptional openness and sincerity. We spoke about the difference between gevurah (strength) and chesed (kindness), about the tendencies of the modern Jewish community of Dnipro, and about each individual’s personal choices,” shared Alona Kolpina, Director of the JSCC “Hillel.”
Special attention was given to Hillel’s aphorisms, including: “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”
These sayings served as a starting point for discussing eternal themes—love, goodness, and compassion—as well as their significance in the modern world.
Such meetings have an important goal: to create a space for dialogue among young Jews, researchers, and active community members. They help not only to better understand spiritual heritage but also to find answers within it to the questions facing modern individuals. It is in this format that texts and ideas, which may seem distant in time, come to life and remain relevant today.
The event was held as part of the educational project “Jewish Dnipro: Memory, Identity, Community,” implemented by the JSCC “Hillel” with the support of Joint Ukraine.
