Summer Festivals by “Sokhnut-Ukraine”

The Ukrainian institution “Sokhnut-Ukraine,” a subdivision of the “Jewish Agency for Israel,” gifted children and teenagers a real celebration this summer—a series of summer festivals called “DACHA VDOMA,” which took place in Zakarpattia in July.

Alexandra Katok, the youth programs coordinator of “Sokhnut-Ukraine,” shared that the first session was held from July 9–16 for children aged 6–13: “The theme of the festival was ‘City.’ Every evening, participants together with their madrichim decorated their group spaces according to the given theme, engaged in workshops, took part in fun games, and swam in the pool. The day traditionally began with energetic festival dances. One of the brightest moments was the evening when the madrichim transformed into stars of the Ukrainian and Israeli scenes—Dzidzio, Tina Karol, Nettu, and others. An equally exciting quest with ancient artifacts was also part of the program. The atmosphere of the session was especially highlighted by a warm Shabbat and Havdalah, which brought the children together in a true family circle.

The second session, held from July 20–29, was designed for teenagers aged 14–17. The concept featured a modern and dynamic theme—’cyberpunk.’ Each participant could choose a track based on their interests. Throughout the festival, there were workshops, lectures, evening programs, and, of course, swimming in the pool. The teenagers challenged themselves with quests, an ‘Intuition’ game, and other activities. A distinctive feature of this session was the creative workshops, where participants could dance, create claymation films, or make jewelry by hand. The event concluded with a traditional open stage, where the chanichim showcased their talents and groups prepared vibrant performances. Colorful neon lights, excitement, and a sea of emotions became the true hallmark of the festival. This summer, ‘Sokhnut-Ukraine’ gifted children and teenagers unforgettable experiences and bright memories. And we are already preparing for new festivals, which will undoubtedly bring even more joy and discoveries.”
