Yizkor: The Memorial Prayer and Tzedakah

On Yom Kippur, Jewish communities around the world recited the memorial prayer “Yizkor” for those whose souls have departed this material world.

An integral part of the Yizkor prayer is the pledge for a donation (tzedakah), which one commits to giving after the holiday in the merit of the deceased.

This act holds special power: we perform a good deed in the physical world, something no longer accessible to those who have left it. It is this act that brings elevation to the soul of the departed, adding merit for them before the Almighty.

You can make a donation to the tzedakah box located in the lobby of the “Golden Rose” Synagogue
