Preparations for Jewish holidays and memorial dates at the Dnipro “Chaya-Mushka” Mahon, a leading educational institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community for girls, are always approached with great care and conscientiousness. The Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur 5786 – was no exception.
In each class, the students, divided into groups under the guidance of their teachers, studied the sicha (talk) of the leader of our generation, the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, dedicated to the meaning and spiritual significance of the day of strict fasting, prayer, and repentance – Yom Kippur.
Afterwards, the entire Mahon gathered in the gym for the study and performance of nigunim, which are an important part of the Yom Kippur prayers. Additionally, each girl gave tzedakah and participated in writing a collective pan (note for a blessing) on the eve of this holy day.
“The girls approached the preparation for Yom Kippur with great diligence and awareness, and at the end, in accordance with Jewish tradition, they requested and received lekach,” related Mora Edna Yudovych. “After such preparation, the girls, together with the entire Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, stood with great awe of repentance and sincere spiritual fervor before the Creator of the World during the prayers in the city’s synagogues.”
