“Tov ve Hesed” Taught Children Why the World We Live In Is Actually Very Good

The “Tov ve Hesed” volunteer project of the Dnipro Jewish Community, led by Chana Nesheses, visited children in need of special care. These children are growing up without parental supervision and live in specialized institutions created under the “Good Homes” program.

This time, the meeting, based on themes from the weekly Torah portion “Bereshit,” was dedicated to the sequence of stages in the creation of the world carried out by the Almighty, and why each stage received the evaluation “good,” while the entire world as a whole was called “very good.” It also explored why we, regardless of our mood or life circumstances, must understand that the world is beautiful and learn, first and foremost, to see the good in it.

“How often do we, as people, fail to notice that the world is very good, especially when we ask our acquaintances how they are doing and from their answers understand that many things don’t please them?” said the project leader, Chana Nesheses. “This happens because inside every person there are things that prevent them from seeing that the world is beautiful—for example, envy. It seems to us that our acquaintances live better, easier, more joyfully, but we must find the beauty that the Almighty has gifted us in our very good lives. We tried to teach the children to focus on the good that is within them.”

In addition to the lesson, the project volunteers brought the children many sweets, conducted fun games with them, and shared with their little friends a positive attitude towards life and the correct perception of the very good world around us.
