Ukrainian Writing and Language Day Celebrated at Dnipro’s Jewish Lyceum

The Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144, the leading educational institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community, vibrantly and joyfully celebrated a very important event for the formation of a modern civic identity – Ukrainian Writing and Language Day, which has been observed since 1997.

High school students traditionally participated in writing the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation, read by People’s Artist of Ukraine Natalia Sumska. She read the text “You Have to Live,” which was written by the renowned author Yevheniia Kuznetsova.

Students from the 6th and 8th grades took part in the educational and entertaining game “Who Will Win – NIGHTINGALE or YOU?” It was fun, dynamic, and very language-focused, as teams competed in knowledge, wit, and love for their native word.

“Our high school students coped quite well with the super-task of the radio dictation – they tested themselves, felt the power of language, and a sense of solidarity with the entire country,” said Svitlana Romenska, the lyceum’s deputy director. “This day reminded us that Ukrainian is not just grammar; it is the soul of a united and cohesive Ukrainian political nation, and all of us, regardless of ethnic origin or creed, are its bearers.”
