In honor of the holiday of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, a major event was held at the “Chaya-Mushka” Mahon, the leading educational institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community for girls, dedicated to the recovery of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, and his reappearance before his chassidim in 1977.
The students of the Mahon first gathered for a festive breakfast, and then all together watched a video about how the Rebbe suffered a heart attack during the holiday of Shemini Atzeret in 1977, how he was ill for five weeks and remained in his office at the famous “770,” refusing hospitalization, how doctors, including the renowned cardiologist Dr. Ira Weiss, feared for his life, and how his miraculous recovery happened, and on the night of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, he reappeared before his chassidim.
Then, the third-grade students performed a skit depicting how all the chassidim rejoiced when they saw the Rebbe after his illness, followed by a fun game. The girls divided into two teams; representatives from each team, from the same class, received questions, had to be the first to run to the goal to earn the right to answer, and if the answer was correct, they could retrieve a medical item from a chest and talk less about the item itself and more about how it could help in their shlichus (mission).
“It was a very bright and emotionally rich event,” said Morah Edna Yudovich. “At the end, each girl received a commemorative souvenir – a pen shaped like a syringe and a large sweet candy, symbolizing our joy from being part of the united and close-knit Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of its Chief Rabbi, Shmuel Kaminezki.”
