The JBBBS (Jewish Big Brothers/Big Sisters) project of the Dnipro Jewish community offers children not only leisure and warm communication with mentors but also the opportunity to discover the world through experience, exploration, and live interaction. Every meeting is a new space for development, joy, and discoveries that are remembered for a long time.
Sometimes, what seems like a miracle turns out to be… ordinary physics—the very same one that works alongside us every minute. It was into this exciting world of “invisible” laws of nature that the JBBBS participants immersed themselves during a new meeting at the Museum of Interesting Science. The tour became a real journey into the world of experiments, where even the most complex phenomena—optics, electricity, mechanics—became close, understandable, and incredibly fascinating.
The tour guide opened the door to scientific secrets for the children in a simple and fun language. Here, everyone could feel like a researcher: all exhibits could be touched, spun, launched, and tested on oneself. In the children’s hands, science literally came to life: they studied optical illusions, controlled lightning bolts, lifted 25 kilograms with one finger, competed in volume with a blue whale, “trained” magical balls, deciphered the Da Vinci code, and even observed a model simulating the behavior of a black hole.
The children were absolutely delighted, and so were the parents who joined the large JBBBS group. These impressions are hard to overestimate, as it is precisely such moments that help children understand: science is not dry formulas but an amazing world that can be seen, heard, and felt.
The project manager, Tetiana Kaplunska, emphasizes: “We want every such meeting to open new horizons for children, give them the joy of learning and the support they feel next to their mentors.
The Jewish Community of Dnipro and the Greater Boston community, as well as Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, continue to create opportunities for children that inspire and help them grow. The JBBBS project is part of the multi-faceted Kehilla Project initiative, aimed at creating an atmosphere of support, development, and warmth for children—despite the challenges of the present. The next meeting is this coming Sunday. Specially invited participants can look forward to new discoveries and new adventures. Registration by phone: 068-480-30-52 (Natalia).”
