The historic Alter Shul synagogue, one of the synagogues of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, which is now home to the Dobre Maybutne rehabilitation center for people with difficult fates who need special attention, socialization, psychological and spiritual support, and adaptation, hosted a series of events dedicated to the holidays and significant dates of the month of Kislev.
The grand farbrengen in honor of Kislev 19 was held in the dining room, and the Hanukkah celebrations were held in the main prayer hall, where the Hanukkah was lit every evening, and the tables were filled with Hanukkah treats, including the famous sufganiyot donuts. Every evening, the holiday candles were lit solemnly, with blessings, and Rabbi Adam Smilyansky told touching stories about the miracles of Hanukkah in the distant and recent past, as well as how the light of Hanukkah candles helps to reveal the spiritual potential of each individual, guide them on the path of goodness, approaching the Torah and the commandments.
“For the parishioners of our synagogue, people who have been through a lot and are now striving to find a solid Jewish foundation under their feet, such holidays are very important and meaningful,” notes Rabbi Adam Smilyansky. “Every day we work hard, pray, fulfill the commandments, build our lives in the light of the Torah and the teachings of Hasidism, and for the fact that this is possible, we sincerely thank the united and united Jewish community of Dnipro and its Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezky.”
