Hanukkah at the Chaya Mushka Machon – Days Filled with Light and Joy

At the Chaya Mushka Machon, one of the leading educational institutions for girls in the Dnipro Jewish Community, daily events dedicated to the light of the Hanukkah candles were held throughout the holiday of Hanukkah. These events inspired, united, and filled each student with joy, warmth, and a sense of community.

Throughout the holiday of Hanukkah, the mahon held a daily ceremony of lighting the Hanukkah candles, the honor of leading which was given to the fathers of the mahon’s students. Each lighting was accompanied by warm words, a festive mood, and a bright, truly colorful atmosphere, making Hanukkah evenings memorable for the girls, who especially enjoyed the delicious Hanukkah donuts (sufganiyot), donated to the mahon by Liora Vaskovskaya for the daily celebration of Hanukkah.

On the third day of Hanukkah, the machon organized a special festive event featuring a large Hanukkah quiz. The machon students enthusiastically answered questions, demonstrating their excellent knowledge of the holiday’s traditions and history, and received sweet prizes for correct answers, adding excitement and genuine childlike joy to the celebration.

The fourth day of Hanukkah was celebrated in a special, truly homey setting. The machon teachers hosted their classes in their homes, where they worked with the students on interactive games, prepared Hanukkah treats, and shared warm and instructive stories. This intimate, family-like atmosphere made the holiday especially intimate and heartfelt, filling the homes and hearts of the participants with light, joy, and love.

“All the days of Chanukah at the machona were very rich, vibrant, and truly memorable for each of our students,” said machona director Rachel Milman. “The girls actively participated in all the Chanukah events, both at the machona itself and at major community celebrations. It was especially joyful to see our students at the ceremonial lighting of Dnipro’s main Chanukiah at the Menorah Center, which became the main event of Chanukah in the united and close-knit Jewish community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezky.”
