An important event took place last night in the Dnipro Jewish Community – the original visual splendor of the majestic portal surrounding the Aron Kodesh in the main prayer hall of the central synagogue, “The Golden Rose,” was restored for the first time.
The complexity of the work lay in the portal’s significant dimensions and its height, which exceeds ten meters, as well as the necessity for extremely careful handling of the cladding material. The light and texture of this material carry a special symbolic meaning embedded in every detail by the architect of the synagogue’s reconstruction in the late 1990s – the renowned Dnipro architect Alexander Teodorovich Dolnik.
Having made the decision to restore the portal to its initial appearance, the Dnipro Jewish Community engaged a specialized cleaning company with extensive experience in working with unique interior solutions. The task was set in such a way that the work would not interfere with prayers or halt the synagogue’s activity even for a few hours.
“The work was completed in one night,” recounts Alexander Shefer, the administrator of the “Golden Rose” synagogue. “A structure was assembled on which specialists with permits for high-altitude work and appropriate insurance operated. Certified, environmentally safe, and non-aggressive cleaning agents were used. They cleaned the surface very carefully yet thoroughly, restoring it to its original appearance. So, in the morning, congregants saw the synagogue’s portal with the Aron Kodesh in all its grandeur. We are very pleased that we were able to complete the task set before us by the leadership of the united and close-knit Dnipro Jewish Community in such a short time and with such high quality.”
