The entire week at the “Beit Zindelicht” Children’s Educational Center, the leading preschool institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community, was dedicated to the theme “Vegetables and Fruits” – an important and tangible component of healthy eating and everyday human life. The students explored the variety of vegetables and fruits, learned about their benefits for the body, and what place they occupy in our diet.
In all groups, the activities were conducted in a lively, engaging, and practical manner. The children examined different types of vegetables and fruits, learned to distinguish them by color, shape, and taste, discussed where they come from, and why it is important to eat healthy food. The practical part particularly interested the little ones – together with their teachers, they prepared salads, made vinaigrette, learned to properly combine ingredients, and squeezed fresh juice from fruits, joyfully tasting the results of their work.
Furthermore, the children engaged in creative activities, drawing bright thematic works, learned new words, and participated in games related to the week’s theme. An important part of the program was also becoming familiar with the plant growth process – the students planted vegetables in pots, observed their development, and learned how vegetables and fruits grow, forming their first ideas about nature and labor.
“When children don’t just listen to the teacher’s story but actively participate – cooking, planting, and observing – knowledge becomes conscious and joyful for them,” kindergarten teacher Naomi Chaya Yavorska told our website. “Such activities help develop curiosity, independence, and a love for healthy habits. It is very important to form a child’s proper and attentive attitude towards the surrounding world from an early age and to show the connection between everyday practices and the structure of the universe, which is an important part of national culture and traditions. This helps to form a harmoniously developed personality, which is our mission entrusted to us by the united and close-knit Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
