A special women’s class dedicated to the topic of geirus (conversion) took place at the “Menorah Community” youth project of the Dnipro Jewish Community, which is actively developing thanks to the efforts of the Zislin family. The class focused on geirus as a deep, conscious, and internally responsible path of joining the Jewish people, their soul, and their destiny.
The speaker at the event was the Deputy Secretary of the Dnipro Rabbinical Court, Rabbi Avraham Yosef Yitzchak Karshenbaum. He helped the participants see geirus not as a formal procedure, but as a serious spiritual choice connected with a change in lifestyle, value system, and a person’s inner self-identification.
During the class, the spiritual meaning of geirus, the true motivation that should stand behind this step, and the responsibility taken on by a person who decides to bind their fate with the Jewish people were discussed in detail. Special attention was paid to the role of Torah, mitzvos, and daily life as an integral part of this journey.
Participants discussed how geirus affects a person’s inner world, how their connection with Hashem changes, and why it is not merely a change of status, but a deep personal transformation. The conversation was open, thoughtful, and touched upon issues of choice, identity, and personal readiness to take upon oneself the Jewish destiny.
“When we speak about geirus as an inner decision and spiritual journey, it helps to truly understand the value of belonging to the Jewish people,” noted Esti Zislin, co-director of the “Menorah Community” project. “Such classes give women the opportunity to contemplate more deeply their connection to Torah, mitzvos, and tradition, and to feel themselves a part of the united and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
