In honor of Rosh Chodesh Adar, another gathering of the “Mothers and Daughters” project took place in the Dnipro Jewish Community, bringing together participants from the children’s program “DJCY – STL kids – JFuture” and the teen program “DJCY – STL Teens – EnerJew,” implemented by the Dnipro Jewish Community with the support of STL and projects of the JRNU foundation.
The theme of the gathering was dedicated to the month of Adar, with special focus on the most joyous holiday of the Jewish calendar—Purim. The evening began with participants watching a short animated video about the holiday, after which they divided into three teams and took part in a quiz dedicated to the history and traditions of Purim. The game was filled with genuine excitement: mothers and daughters actively answered questions, cheered on their teams, and enthusiastically delved into the details of the holiday’s laws and events.
The program continued with an auction, where participants could use points earned during the quiz to win prizes in the form of food items. These products were assembled into gift packages designated for needy families from the “Live Changer” program. Many participants also brought food items from their own families, which were included in the holiday packages, lending the initiative a special family character and enhancing the atmosphere of care and mutual support.
To conclude the gathering, each participant prepared her own mishloach manos basket to give to friends on Purim, thereby fulfilling another of the holiday’s central mitzvos. It is important not only to support those in need but also to bring joy to one’s friends, spreading Purim’s joy to everyone and ensuring that all are included in this meaningful process.
“We wanted the theme of Adar and Purim to be expressed not only in theory but through active participation, shared games, and good deeds,” said project coordinator Beila Letichevskaya. “The quiz, auction, and preparation of mishloach manos helped participants experience the joy of the month of Adar while also contributing to supporting other families. Thanks to the support of the Dnipro Jewish Community and its Chief Rabbi, Shmuel Kaminezki, the project continues to develop, creating a space where mothers and daughters together experience Jewish traditions and strengthen the connection between generations.”
