Villain Purim: When Villains Gather Together

We are delighted to share with our readers a vibrant youth celebration of Purim. This year, the “Hillel” Jewish Student Cultural Center, together with its partners – Moishe House Dnipro and the “Sokhnut-Ukraine” Branch – prepared an unusual celebration format for young people, transforming Purim into a true Villain Purim.

Alona Kolpina, Director of the “Hillel” Jewish Student Cultural Center, shared: “For one evening, the event space became a gallery of vivid antagonists: from brilliant con artists to charismatic supervillains. The atmosphere was a little theatrical, a little adventurous, but truly festive.

The celebration began with a themed photoset for “Wanted” posters, where everyone could try on the role of a real villain. Participants created their own wanted posters and immediately immersed themselves in the evening’s atmosphere.

Next, guests enjoyed a traditional Purimshpiel, but with completely non-traditional characters. In an interactive format, participants revisited the Purim story, after which they proceeded to themed “stations” – challenges for our heroes. They faced brain-teaser games, an obstacle course, a themed quiz, and dance charades, where everyone could shine and earn a bit of fame.

The evening culminated in a vote for the best costume. Participants also took part in a prize lottery, and the celebration concluded with dancing and cocktails, adding even more spirit to the night.

We are sincerely grateful to all the participants who boldly transformed into their favorite villains and made this Purim truly memorable. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our partners – Moishe House Dnipro and the “Sokhnut-Ukraine” Branch. We especially thank the united and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community and its Chief Rabbi, Shmuel Kaminezki, for their support, inspiration, and for the opportunity to create events together that bring young people together and provide a genuine sense of celebration.”
