An educational excursion took place at Machon “Chaya-Mushka,” the leading educational institution for girls of the Dnipro Jewish Community, during which students from first through fourth grade visited a matzah bakery to gain hands-on experience with the matzah-making process they had previously studied in their tradition classes.
The renowned Dnipro matzah bakery “Tiferet Matzot,” which the students visited, is a place where matzah shmurah is handmade in strict accordance with the requirements of Jewish law. During the excursion, the girls were able to observe all stages of this process, from mixing the dough from flour and water, to dividing it into portions, rolling it into thin circles, perforating it, and quickly baking it in a scorching hot oven, resulting in matzah within seconds – matzah that for millennia has remained the enduring symbol of the Pesach holiday. This direct encounter with the process allowed the students to connect the material they had studied with real-world practice and gain a deeper understanding of the preparation for one of the key holidays of the Jewish calendar.
“The girls were able to see what they had learned in their tradition classes, where we studied in detail what matzah is, its meaning, why such special attention must be paid to its creation, and why it became one of the key symbols of Jewish tradition,” noted Morah Edna Yudovich. “Such excursions allow not only for the study of traditions but also for seeing their practical realization, which makes learning more meaningful. We sincerely thank the united and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki for the opportunity to provide children with such an education and to raise them in the spirit of Yiddishkeit.”
