On the night of Sunday, March 29, Ukraine will switch to “daylight saving time”: clocks will be moved forward by one hour, and after 2:59 AM, it will become 4:00 AM.
This process is carried out according to the fundamental mnemonic method for determining the clock change – “Spring Forward, Fall Back.”
This is established by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 509 of May 13, 1996, according to which the country observes the time of the second time zone, with the annual changing of the clock on the last Sunday of March at 3:00 AM forward by one hour, and on the last Sunday of October at 4:00 AM back by one hour. (As is known, most of Ukraine’s territory lies within the zone corresponding to UTC+2, i.e., the “second time zone”).
One should be especially attentive and careful when determining the candle-lighting times for Shabbos and holidays in your region, as sometimes Jewish calendars account for the switch to daylight saving time, while other times one must add one hour to the “winter” time. The calendars of the Dnipro Jewish Community account for the switch to “daylight saving” time.
