A ceremony honoring residents of Dnipro took place on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Radiation Accidents and Catastrophes. Among those awarded high honors were representatives of the Dnipro Jewish Community and the city’s Jewish institutions.
The solemn ceremony was held at the Dnipro History Museum, where Deputy Mayor Eduard Pidlubny presented the awards on behalf of the Mayor. The honors were bestowed upon city residents who made significant contributions to the liquidation of the accident’s consequences, medical assistance to victims, and public activities.
The commemorative medal “For Merits to the City,” 2nd degree, was awarded to Ihor Volodymyrovych Turchyn, a participant in the liquidation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, a deputy of the Dnipro City Council, a full holder of the Order “For Merit,” and chairman of the public organization “Dnipro City Union ‘Union of Chernobyl of Ukraine’.” His many years of activity in supporting the liquidators, protecting their rights, and preserving the memory of the feat of the participants in those events received high praise from the city authorities.
Additionally, the commemorative medal “For Medical Assistance” was awarded to Nataliya Volodymyrivna Khobotova, an otolaryngologist at the Jewish Medical Center “JMC,” recognizing her professional service and the contribution of the Jewish medical institution to caring for people.
