A thematic Week of Flowers and Houseplants was held at the “Beit Zindlicht” Children’s Educational Center, the leading early childhood institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community. Throughout the week, the students explored the wonderful world of plants, learned to understand their unique characteristics, and mastered the basics of caring for living nature.
During the week, the children enthusiastically examined leaves, flowers, and root systems, discovered what plants need for healthy growth, and learned how to properly care for their green friends. Through practical activities, the students discovered how closely care, attention, and responsibility are connected to the well-being of every living being.
A special highlight was that each child planted their own flower in an individual pot. Now, every student has their own green friend to care for with love, to water, and to watch grow and blossom under their attentive care.
An unusual conclusion to the thematic week was a shared tea party with fragrant mint tea. Having become acquainted with mint as one of the plants, the children were able to taste and smell it, making their introduction to the world of plants not only educational but also deeply emotional and memorable.
“When a child plants a flower with their own hands and then cares for it every day, they learn not only how to tend to a plant but also to understand the value of responsibility, care, and gratitude to the Almighty for the beautiful world He created,” noted kindergarten educator Naomi Chaya Yavorska. “It is from such small daily actions that good habits are born – love for the world around us and respect for all living things. Such education helps children from an early age to feel responsible for the world around them and becomes an important part of character formation, thanks to the support of the united and cohesive Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
