The fifth day of the “Nitzotzot Kdusha” girls day camp, organized by the Jewish Community of Dnipro with the support of the Jewish Relief Network Ukraine charity organization, was dedicated to the Kiyor—the special basin that stood in the Beis HaMikdash. The participants learned about the history of this sacred vessel and discovered the special role Jewish women played in its creation.
During the lesson, the girls were told that the Kiyor was made from the copper mirrors that Jewish women lovingly donated for the construction of the Mishkan. Through their devotion, the vessel used by the Kohanim to wash their hands and feet before beginning the Temple service came into being. After the educational session, the participants symbolically reinforced the theme of the day, followed by an action-packed entertainment program—a colorful Holi powder battle and a lively foam party. The organizers note that the Holi powders used wash off completely with water and are easily removed from clothing, and the foam is safe and hypoallergenic.
“Each day at our camp helps the girls discover new chapters of Jewish tradition and see how important the good deeds of every individual are for the entire Jewish people,” said camp director Leah Lazareva. “The combination of educational sessions with active recreation makes this knowledge vibrant, joyful, and truly relatable, helping the participants feel themselves part of the united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
