A thematic “Week of Good Deeds” took place at the “Beit Tzindlicht” children’s educational center—a leading preschool institution of the Jewish Community of Dnipro. During this week, the students explored in an engaging and playful format one of the most fundamental principles of Jewish education: performing good deeds and caring for others. The specially prepared program helped the children understand that good deeds can manifest in a wide variety of everyday situations.
At the “Tzedakah” station, the children searched for coins in the sand and placed them into the tzedakah box, learning about the importance of charity and helping others. Next, they helped “Grandma” gather vegetables and fruits, learned various greetings, became familiar with the brachos recited before eating different foods, and, with their eyes closed, identified fruits and vegetables by taste. Each of these tasks helped the children develop attentiveness, kindness, respect for Jewish traditions, and a desire to perform good deeds in their daily lives.
“We strive to show the children that good deeds consist of the simplest everyday actions—helping others, kind words, gratitude, and thoughtful attention to those around them,” said preschool teacher Naomi Chaya Yavorskaya. “When a child learns from an early age to see opportunities to make the world just a little bit better, it becomes an important part of their character and helps them grow into an active participant in the life of the united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
