In Dnipro – the city where Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, father of the Seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, served as chief rabbi for many years – the Jewish Community of Dnipro held a series of events dedicated to the 20th of Av, the day of his yahrzeit. The central events were the men’s and women’s farbrengens, which brought together members of the community to study the legacy of the great tzaddik and reflect on his spiritual heroism.
The main men’s farbrengen took place in one of the halls of the central “Golden Rose” Synagogue. It was led and hosted by Rabbi Moishe Leib Weber, who spoke about the life of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, his selfless service to the Jewish people, the years of persecution, and his unwavering devotion to Torah. The participants discussed the significance of his spiritual legacy for the present generation, sang Chassidic niggunim, and shared the traditional farbrengen meal.
Simultaneously, a women’s farbrengen was held in the “Kollel Torah” educational space, organized by the Weber family. The special guest of the gathering was the Deputy Secretary of the Dnipro Rabbinical Court, Rabbi Avraham Yosef Yitzchak Karshenbaum – a renowned expert on the Jewish history of Dnipro. He shared with the participants little-known historical facts from the life of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, speaking about his work in Yekaterinoslav, the trials he endured during the years of Soviet repression, and the spiritual legacy that continues to inspire Jews around the world.
“For our community, the 20th of Av holds special significance, for it was in Dnipro that Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson lived and worked for many years, leaving a deep mark on the history of our city and the entire Jewish people,” said Rabbi Moishe Leib Weber. “Such farbrengens help not only to preserve the memory of the great tzaddik but also to strengthen our connection to his legacy, inspiring us to live according to the ideals of Torah to which he was devoted throughout his life. All participants of the gathering expressed sincere gratitude to the united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki, which for many years has lovingly preserved the memory of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson and does everything to ensure that his legacy continues to live on and inspire new generations of Jews.”
