On the eve of Rosh Hashanah 5787, the Jewish Community of Dnipro is holding a grand festive campaign with the support of the charitable organization JRNU (Jewish Relief Network Ukraine). Over a thousand gifts featuring the traditional symbols of the Jewish New Year are intended for community members, so that as many Jewish families as possible can greet the coming year with joy and in accordance with Jewish tradition.
Each gift includes apples and honey – two of the main and most recognizable symbols of Rosh Hashanah. During the festive days, it is customary to dip an apple in honey, expressing the wish that the coming year be good and sweet. Thanks to JRNU’s assistance, over a thousand members of the Jewish Community of Dnipro will be able to fulfill this beautiful custom at the festive table together with their families and loved ones.
The large-scale distribution covers community members and participants in its numerous programs. Of particular significance is the fact that the festive gift becomes not merely a set of traditional foods, but a sign of attention and belonging: on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the community strives to surround its members with care and ensure that the atmosphere of the approaching holiday reaches every Jewish family.
JRNU’s support throughout the year covers the most diverse areas of the Jewish Community of Dnipro’s life. Thanks to cooperation with Jewish Relief Network Ukraine, large-scale social initiatives are implemented, assistance is provided to families with children, religious families, internally displaced persons, and socially vulnerable community members, and before important dates on the Jewish calendar, special attention is given to ensuring that people can properly prepare for the holidays and feel a connection to Jewish tradition and the community.
The Jewish Community of Dnipro expresses its sincere gratitude to the charitable organization JRNU (Jewish Relief Network Ukraine) for over a thousand festive gifts, its ongoing attention to the needs of community members, and its significant assistance in developing Jewish life.
“Rosh Hashanah is a time when we wish one another a good and sweet year, and it is very symbolic that thanks to our friends at Jewish Relief Network Ukraine, over a thousand community members are receiving apples and honey, so that this wish becomes part of every family’s festive meal,” said Rabbi Reuven Kaminezki. “We sincerely thank JRNU for their ongoing support, for the attention and care that our friends show to the Jewish families of Dnipro throughout the year, and especially before the most important Jewish holidays. May the coming year 5787 bring much goodness and joy to all who help strengthen Jewish life and care for every member of our united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
