A grand festive event marking the upcoming holidays of the month of Tishrei took place at the “Beit Baruch” home for the elderly—a unique social institution of the Dnipro Jewish community. The program featured the premiere of a new theatrical production by the home’s creative studio, a performance by primary school students from the Levi Yitzchak Schneerson Jewish Lyceum No. 144, the blowing of the shofar, and a heartwarming gathering that brought together children and the older generation in anticipation of Rosh Hashanah.
The highlight of the celebration was the premiere of the play “Holidays of the Month of Tishrei,” prepared by the “Beit Baruch” creative studio under the direction of Rivka Lazareva. Performed entirely in Ukrainian, the production presented the holidays of Tishrei—Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot—in an engaging and accessible way. The program included Jewish folktales, poems, songs, and short theatrical sketches that illuminated the spiritual significance of these days and helped the audience deeply experience the atmosphere of the approaching Jewish New Year.
Following the play, primary school students from the Jewish Lyceum took the stage. Under the guidance of teachers Viktoria Pliner, Svetlana Abramovich, and Gayane Arakelyan, as well as Deputy Principal Galina Nakonechnaya, the children prepared a vibrant concert featuring poetry, songs, and dance and acrobatic routines. The performance by the 3-A class was particularly moving; their song deeply stirred the audience, and the sincerity of the young performers left no one unmoved.
The most touching moments of the gathering were the times spent in live interaction between the children and the residents of “Beit Baruch.” The young people approached each elderly resident, shook hands, chatted, and paid special attention to those in wheelchairs. These simple yet deeply sincere gestures of care moved everyone present and served as a reminder of the importance of gatherings that unite the different generations of one big family. The celebration concluded with the blowing of the shofar by Rabbi Levi Artyushkin of the “Beit Baruch” home for the elderly, after which the children and residents continued to socialize over refreshments.
“On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, it is especially important to feel the connection between generations, for this is how Jewish traditions, love for one’s people, and respect for elders are passed down,” noted Malvina Ruvinskaya, Director of the “Beit Baruch” home for the elderly. “Such gatherings bring our residents joy, warmth, and a sense of being needed and loved, helping them lead full, happy, and long lives.
