Yizkor: The Memorial Prayer and Tzedakah

On Shmini Atzeres, in Jewish communities around the world, the “Yizkor” memorial prayer was recited for those whose souls have departed from the material world.

An integral part of the Yizkor prayer is the promise of a donation (tzedakah) that a person takes upon themselves – to give a donation after the holiday for the merit of the deceased.

This act holds special power: we perform a good deed in the physical world, something no longer accessible to those who have left it. It is this act that brings elevation to the soul of the departed, adding merit for them before the Almighty.

You can make a donation to the tzedakah box located in the lobby of the “Golden Rose” Synagogue
