New Video on the “Menorah” Channel: “How to Outsmart Genetics and Extend Life? | The Secret of Longevity”

A new episode of the weekly lesson series by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kaminezki, has been released on the “Menorah” YouTube channel. This time, the conversation is dedicated to longevity and to how our actions, our attitude toward others, and our spiritual life are connected to how much time is allotted to us.

Rav Shmuel Kaminezki invites us to look at time as a special resource that can be managed in different ways. Why do the hours spent helping others, performing good deeds, and praying not become lost in a spiritual sense? In the lesson, this idea is revealed through a comparison with a financial budget and an explanation of how what is invested in goodness can return to a person in completely unexpected ways.

A special place is occupied by the story of the chassid Leizer Nanas, who spent twenty years in Siberian camps. This example becomes an occasion to speak about faith, fortitude, and an unusual view of age and the years allotted to a person. The Rav also turns to the traditional blessing to live to 120 years and reflects on why spiritual legacy and good deeds allow one to rethink the boundaries of human life.

The episode also touches on the familiar excuse “I have no time.” How does one find the opportunity for good deeds amid daily concerns, and why does helping one’s fellow not necessarily take something away from us? The conversation reminds us that time is not only what passes but also what we fill our lives with.
