New Video on the “Menorah” Channel: “Loneliness Is a Terrible Thing: How to Help a Widowed Parent Build a Family | Chayei Sarah”

A new lesson from the cycle of weekly classes by the Chief Rabbi of Dnipro, Shmuel Kaminezki, dedicated to the Torah portion of Chayei Sarah, has been released on the “Menorah” YouTube channel. This time, the Rav speaks about the relationships between parents and children, family responsibility, and why care for loved ones should not be limited only to everyday needs.

At the center of the lesson are several important life situations. Rav Shmuel explains why one should not say to parents who have adopted a child: “Now you will have children of your own.” For the adopted child is already their own child, and care for them is something far greater than the formal fulfillment of a duty. The conversation continues with the story of Avraham and Yitzchak: how the son cared for his lonely father, and why Avraham took upon himself the responsibility of finding a future wife for Yitzchak.

Special attention is given to widowed parents. The Rav reflects on why it is important for children to help their mother or father find family happiness again, not to leave them in solitude, and how the Lubavitcher Rebbe related to this theme. The lesson also includes the words of the Torah about how Avraham instructed Eliezer to set out in search of a wife for Yitzchak.

The episode concludes with a discussion about the “spiritual children” of the emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The annual gathering of emissaries in New York, which brings together more than seven thousand participants, becomes an occasion to speak about a large family united not only by ties of kinship but also by a shared mission.
