A story that teaches not to fear the road, even when it leads through the desert.
On April 26, the play “SNE” will be performed on the stage of the Menorah Center. An almost biblical story about Moses, the Burning Bush, the stubborn Jews, and the treacherous Egyptians, as interpreted by the DGU THEATER.
For many centuries, the Jewish people lived in Egyptian slavery. And many believed that they had already almost become one nation… The author of the play, Hryhoriy Helfer — laureate of the 2026 Sholem Aleichem Prize — together with director Volodymyr Petrenko, reexamines events from over 3,500 years ago.
The title of the play comes from the Hebrew word for a bush in the desert — the very Burning Bush through which, according to the biblical story, the Lord addressed Moses with a call for the Exodus. Moses faces not only an external enemy but also internal resistance: the fear, disbelief, and stubbornness of people accustomed to living in bondage. The Jews left with great difficulty and over a long time, but they succeeded!
This is a play about the power of leadership, the identity of a people, and the search for one’s own path, even when it seems that the boundaries between “us” and “them” have long been erased.
The event is organized in collaboration between the DGU THEATER and the Menorah Art Platform, within the framework of the “Mobilization of Intellectual Potential” project, with the support of the Dnipro Jewish Community. For the Menorah Center, the MIP project, and the Jewish Community, supporting such events is a contribution to the development of the city’s cultural environment. It is through art that dialogue, understanding, and shared values are formed, helping to build a modern, open, and strong society.
