On January 31, 2002 in a picturesque, ecologically clean area of the city of Dnipro, the Jewish community opened a unique home for the elderly “Beit Baruch” in honor of the blessed memory of Boris Mikhailovich Bogolyubov.
The main humanitarian idea behind Beit Baruch was to create optimal living conditions for the least protected single elderly people, as a factor in improving their health and prolonging their independent active life. It houses a rehabilitation center with special simulators for those who have undergone hip surgery, and cozy rooms. Daily morning and evening prayers are held here, and a weekly Torah chapter is read. In “Beit Baruch” the necessary medical-consulting assistance is provided, a number of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic measures are carried out. Medical staff is available around the clock to meet the vital needs of the Home. A therapist consults daily, a neurologist twice a week, a psychologist, and consultations are held with specialized specialists. A social worker helps residents to organize their leisure time and adapt to the Home.
Residents of the home for the elderly take an active part in the life of the Jewish community of Dnipro, in holidays and events. And they are often visited by students of the Jewish school, children’s educational center “Beit Zindlikht”, leading creative groups, volunteers and young leaders of the community.
