The Jewish Medical Center “JMC,” one of the most important medical and social institutions of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, hosted unusual guests – the students of the “Dnipro” Scientific Medical Lyceum, who, together with the lyceum’s director Liliia Kovaliova and their teachers, visited the clinic to become acquainted with the organization of the work of a modern medical institution, its diagnostic and surgical capabilities, and the daily practice of doctors.
At the beginning of the gathering, the guests were greeted by the Chairman of the Board and General Director of the Jewish Medical Center “JMC,” Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Physiology of Dnipro State Medical University, Professor Alexander Rodinsky. He told the lyceum students about the activity of the medical center, its capabilities, and wished them success in their studies and an interesting acquaintance with practical medicine.
It is especially noteworthy that the tour for the students was conducted by a graduate of this very lyceum, Yelyzaveta (Beila) Letichevska, who today works as a family doctor and therapist at JMC. For the students, such a meeting became not only an opportunity to learn more about the medical profession but also to see an example of how the knowledge gained at the lyceum becomes the foundation of further professional education and work in a modern clinic.
The tour covered three divisions of the medical center – “JMC Central,” “JMC Surgery,” and “JMC Family Doctor.” The lyceum students visited the laboratory, the treatment room, the ultrasound and radiology diagnostic rooms, the ophthalmology and gynecology rooms, and became acquainted with the work of the diagnostic equipment. The specialists demonstrated the performance of electrocardiography and ultrasound examination, told about the capabilities of these diagnostic methods and their significance for detecting various diseases.
Particular interest was aroused by the visit to the surgical division, where the students were able to see the operating room, the inpatient wards, and the intensive care unit. Here the future medical professionals became acquainted with the organization of surgical care and postoperative observation of patients, and were also able to ask the specialists questions about the work of a modern clinic.
“Such gatherings enable the students of the medical lyceum to go beyond the theoretical study of subjects, to see the real work of doctors of various specialties, and to better understand the demands of the future profession,” notes Professor Alexander Rodinsky. “For our medical center, this is a very important program of passing on professional experience to the future generation of doctors, and we are glad that JMC can become for young people a place of acquaintance with modern high-level medicine, based on scientific evidence, professionalism, and qualified care for patients. We are proud of the opportunity to fulfill this important educational and social mission, which has become possible thanks to the constant care and support of the united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
