Celebration of the New Year of Chassidism at “Beit Zindlicht”

A special event for children in honor of the 19th of Kislev, celebrated as the New Year of Chassidism, was held at the “Beit Zindlicht” Children’s Educational Center, a preschool educational institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community. The day commemorates the Liberation of the founder of Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidism, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, from a Russian prison.

Various activities related to this important date took place for pupils of different age groups: the children listened to and tried to sing along to nigunim (Chassidic melodies), danced to Chassidic tunes, and decorated portraits of the Alter Rebbe, which became beautiful festive attributes.

A large joint performance, prepared by the teachers of “Beit Zindlicht,” took place in the assembly hall. The children followed the twists and turns of the captivating play with rapt attention. It recounted the historical events of the arrest and miraculous Liberation of the Alter Rebbe, which became a key moment in spreading the light of Chassidism.

“Both the children and the teachers prepared for this day with great awe, because events that are nearly two hundred and thirty years old remain relevant and very important today,” shared Naomi Chaya Yavorska, a teacher at “Beit Zindlicht.” “We tried to reveal the profound spiritual essence of this event in an engaging form accessible to the very youngest, laying the foundation for a Chassidic perception of the great miracle that happened not only to the Alter Rebbe himself but to the entire Jewish people.”
