The Week’s Theme at “Beit Zindelicht” – “Bread”

The entire week at the “Beit Zindelicht” Children’s Educational Center, the leading preschool institution of the Dnipro Jewish Community, was dedicated to the theme “Bread” – one of the most important and symbolic products in Jewish tradition. The students learned about the amazing journey a tiny grain takes before becoming fragrant bread, discovered the labor of the people thanks to whom it appears on the table, and understood the significance of bread in daily life.

In all groups, the activities were conducted in a lively and engaging manner. The children examined grains and flour, discussed what dough is made from and how it is kneaded, and also learned why bread is treated with special respect in Judaism. The most joyful moment for the little ones was the practical part – together with their teachers, they kneaded dough, baked cookies and cupcakes, and then proudly tasted the results of their work.

Furthermore, the children learned new words, poems, and participated in thematic games that helped them better understand why bread is called the foundation of the table and a symbol of abundance and blessing.

“When children themselves touch the process – knead the dough, feel its aroma, and see the result of their work, knowledge becomes alive and joyful for them,” Naomi Chaya Yavorska, a kindergarten teacher, told our website. “Through such simple and warm activities, we not only broaden the children’s horizons but also pass on important values to them.

Carrying out such a rich and educational thematic week, filled with the joy of creativity and a real-life introduction to Jewish values, has been made possible thanks to the support of the united and close-knit Dnipro Jewish Community under the leadership of its Chief Rabbi, Shmuel Kaminezki.”
