Another men’s Torah class at the “Menorah Community” youth project of the Jewish Community of Dnipro, which has been actively developing thanks to the efforts of the Zislina family, was dedicated to the approaching holiday of Sukkos – one of the most joyful holidays of the Jewish calendar, which reveals the meaning of trust in the Almighty, spiritual stability, and true joy. Special attention was given to why, by leaving one’s familiar home for seven days and moving into the sukkah, a person learns to see their main support not in the material world, but in Divine Providence.
The speaker for the gathering was the Deputy Secretary of the Dnipro Rabbinical Court, Reb Avraham Yosef Yitzchak Karshenbaum, who addressed the most relevant questions connected with the spiritual meaning of the holiday of Sukkos. The main attention was given to why the sukkah helps one look at one’s own life in a new way, what significance the four species of plants – the lulav, esrog, aravah, and hadas – hold, and why it is precisely Sukkos that the Torah calls “the time of our rejoicing.”
During the lesson, the participants reflected on how dwelling in the sukkah helps a person step beyond the familiar sense of security, learn to trust the Almighty more deeply, and acquire inner stability regardless of external circumstances. The discussion focused on understanding that the joy of Sukkos is born not from material well-being, but from an awareness of the Almighty’s closeness, the fulfillment of His mitzvos, and the opportunity to feel oneself part of a centuries-old Jewish tradition.
“The holiday of Sukkos reminds each of us that a person’s true support is not the walls of their home, but trust in the Almighty, living according to the Torah, and the fulfillment of mitzvos,” noted Levi Zislina, director of the “Menorah Community” project. “It is through the study of Torah, the fulfillment of mitzvos, and the striving to apply them in daily life that we develop ourselves as individuals and bring spiritual light into the world. And for the opportunity to study Torah and draw closer to it, we thank from the bottom of our hearts our beloved united and cohesive Jewish Community of Dnipro under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Shmuel Kaminezki.”
